Generating and Viewing Thumbnails

The iProject has a built-in thumbnail viewer as well as a built-in thumbnail generator for fast and easy viewing of image files in a project. The thumbnail generator works by scanning the image files contained in a directory then converting them to another format and resizing them to something small enough to display as a thmbnail. The converted copies are kept in the same folder with an identical name (minus the extention of course) so they can be used again and again within the iProject, as well as downloaded for use on your own computer.

To generate thumbnails, you first find a directory that contains a set of image files. The iProject is capable of making thumbnails for JPGs, TIFs, GIFs, PNGs, and BMPs. Once you've selected the folder, click the Generate Thumbnails button and a dialogue box will open showing you a progress bar that represents the time to complete the generation. This can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes based on the number of and size of the files as the iProject opens converts and resizes the files, so be please be patient.

Once the process is completed, you can click the View Thumbnails button to open a thumbnail viewer window. In this window, you are shown the compressed thumbnails for all of the images in the folder along with file sizes, descriptions and the file status. You can use the browse link at the bottom of a thumbnail to open the original picture up in a browser window, or you can click the Save link to download the original picture to your local machine.

Please note: All thumbnails are stored as JPGs with the same filename as the original picture, unless the original picture was a JPG to begin with. If the original picture was a JPG, the thumbnail file is stored as a PNG.
