Messages

The iProject has a message thread system built into the iExplorer. This allows you to write messages with other users in the same project and attach them to files and directories. To add a message to a file or folder, first select the message so it's highlighted, then click the 'Messages' button. This is the icon that looks like a folder with a message on it. You may also right-click the file or folder, and use the 'View Messages' option there as well.

Once you've opened the Messaging utility for the chosen file or folder, you'll be presented with a window like the one shown below. At the top of the window, the file name as well as the directory it's contained in is displayed. Below that, you'll notice four buttons: Create New Topic, Move Topic, Rename Topic, and Delete Topic. The messaging system works like this: Someone makes a new topic, usually pertaining to the file or folder it's contained in, and then writes a messages on that topic. Other people can respond to these messages with messages of their own, or even create more topics.

To create a message, click the 'Create Topic' button. A dialogue box will appear, prompting you to enter a name for the topic. Once you click ok, your topic will appear on the left as shown below. Topics work like a directory tree, and you can create subtopics under topics. The messages will appear in the tree as well, much like files would appear under a normal directory tree.

To create a message under a topic, first select the topic so it's highlighted, then click the 'Add/Edit Message' tab near the top of this window. You are presented with a screen as you see below. Here you will enter a subject for the message and the message itself. When you are finished, clicking 'Save New' will create a new message in topic you've chosen, while 'Cancel' will bring you back to the 'View Messages' tab.

Once you've created a message, you may also edit the message, move the message, and delete the message. Moving it works the same way moving a topic on the left would work. You would first select the message or topic you'd like to move, then click the appropriate move button. A window will appear with the topic tree structure and you choose where you'd like to move it.

Deleting a message or topic works pretty much the same way. First select the message or topic you'd like to delete, and then click the appropriate delete button.

You may also edit your message if you'd like to make any changes to it. First select you message so it's highlighted, then simply click the 'Add/Edit Message' tab as you did before. You'll be brought back to the same window you were in when you created the message, but it should already be populated with the information currently in the message. From here you would make your changes, and then click the 'Update' button at the bottom when you're done. If you click the 'Save New' button instead, your message will not be edited, and you will have created a new message.

There's also a button in the Add/Edit window that allows you to enter links to other documents or folders in the current project. Click the 'Insert Link' button to have the iProject insert a link to another document you choose from a list of the files and folders in your current project.
