File Descriptions and Directory Information

Another great feature of the iExplorer area is the ability to find out all sorts of information about any given file and/or directory. The first useful feature we'll discuss is Directory Statistics. If you right click on a directory, you should get a dialogue box. Selecting Directory Statistics will open a window as shown in the picture below. In this window, you'll find the directory name, how many directories it contains, how many files it contains and what the total size (in bytes) is.

You can also view a directory's contents by right-clicking as above, then choosing 'Directory Contents'. This will open a window like you see below that lists all of the sub-directories for the directory you've chosen and formats them into a link tree. Clicking any one of these links will take you to that directory as a link would take you to a web page. You can also click the "Save..." button to download this window as an HTML file. The HTML file will appear exactly as you see it in the iProject, only there will be no links to folders in the version you save to your own machine.

You may also enter personalized descriptions and attach them to files so they can be viewed in the iExplorer window. If you look at the last column in any file list window, you'll notice that there is a place for 'Description'. Information you enter as a description will show up here to be viewed any time the file is displayed in the window. To enter a file description, first select the file so it's highlighted, then you may right-click the file and select 'Properties', or you may select the 'Properties' button in the icon bar at the top of the window.

In the example below, you'll see several fields in this window. The first is the name field. Changing the name of the file here will change the name of the file in the file list window as well. The size field tells you how big the file is in bytes. The Status field lets you change the status of the file depending on what stage it's in. The choices are Raw, Intermediate and Final. The large bottom field is where you enter the description for the file. If you enter a lot of information here, users may not be able to display all of the information in the file list window, but they can always open this File Properties window to view what has been written.
