The Java Plug-In is a browser extension that some browsers require to display modern applets. Technically, Java consists of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE, which includes the system libraries supporting Java) and the Java Plug-In (JPI, additional libraries allowing Web browsers to make use of the JRE), but these are usually installed together as part of the same software package. If you are using a version of Java older than 1.3.1_10 or 1.4.2_03, please update your Java Plug-In.
